Among all the shuffling that the Los Angeles Lakers have done with their roster this offseason, there has been much attention directed toward second-year point guard Lonzo Ball's future with the franchise.

This had seen his name become mentioned in trade rumors, but things had quickly been quieted down after it was revealed that he was dealing with a torn meniscus that he suffered at the tail end of last season. This is something that Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN believes was leaked by people in Ball's camp in order to keep him off the table in trade talks with other teams.

Prior to that news being let out, there had been no indication of the type of injury that Ball is dealing with as the Lakers had been quite hush-hush with the extent of the injury. In fact, it was not known that he had a platelet-rich-plasma injection into his left knee until about a month after the season had ended. There was much public secrecy as to what kind of injury he had suffered.

What was more puzzling was the timing of the injury reveal given that the Lakers were exploring talks to acquire additional assets to make a more feasible deal to pry All-Star forward Kawhi Leonard away from the San Antonio Spurs. There was even chatter that his name had come up in talks with the Denver Nuggets, but this injury has pushed teams away from including him in that discussion.

It is still a fluid situation that has become even more scrutinized after the Lakers made the decision to bring aboard veteran point guard Rajon Rondo on a one-year, $9 million deal. It is believed to be an open competition for the starting job that may have been done to light a motivational fire under Ball ahead of next season. Nonetheless, things have become quite intriguing in Los Angeles this offseason.
