Los Angeles Lakers superstar Anthony Davis appears to be nearing a much-awaited return to the court. The team has provided a timely update on Davis' current status and he has now taken a significant step in his road to recovery from his calf injury.
According to the Lakers, via ESPN's Dave McMenamin, AD has now been cleared for on-court activity:
The latest on what the Lakers are saying about AD: “Anthony Davis was re-examined by team medical staff earlier this evening. He continues to progress in his recovery and has been cleared to advance his on court work. Additional updates will be given when appropriate.”

This is a significant development for both Davis and the Lakers, with their prized big man now going on six weeks on the shelf. While this is certainly a positive update, the team has yet to provide a firm timetable on AD's target date.

What we can be sure of, however, is that the Lakers won't be rushing him back. They're likely going to let Davis take all the time he needs to fully heal from what has emerged as a tricky calf problem.
L.A. has lost three straight games now, and they're slowly falling in the rankings in the Western Conference. LeBron James also recently sustained a significant injury and is set to sit out for the next four to six weeks. Needless to say, the Lakers are not in a very good place right now.
The defending champs are not panicking, though. They know that a healthy squad will be able to compete with any team in the NBA and with home-court advantage no longer significant in today's NBA, the Lakers are probably happy to just make it into the playoffs. They'd love to keep their best guys fresh for what should be another grueling title run for the Purple & Gold.
