After beating the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday, Los Angeles Lakers center JaVale McGee hailed the Purple and Gold as the “best team in the world.”

Per Bill Oram of The Athletic, McGee tagged their win over Western Conference rivals as a statement game to hush the critics.

The game, which featured the two best teams in the West, was a competitive affair throughout. Superstars of both teams showed up and put on a top-notch performance. Kawhi Leonard and Paul George put up 27 and 31 points, respectively. For the Lakers, LeBron James and Anthony Davis also combined for 58 markers.

But as the game progressed, it was the Lakers who prevailed, thanks to a dagger and-one from James. While he was on the free-throw line, MVP chants reverberated all over Staples Center.

The Lakers locked in the 112-103 victory, putting their series at 2-1. The team has a chance to tie the season series on April 9.

Since the two teams beefed up their roster over the summer, they were immediately deemed as favorites to represent the West in the NBA Finals. In the past, whenever the two teams faced each other at Staples Center, it was pretty much a normal game. Now, die-hard fans from both parties take the time and effort to witness the Battle of Los Angeles.

Outside of their rivalry, the Clippers and the Lakers have their own interests. As an organization, LeBron and Co. are gunning for their 17th title which would tie their archrivals, the Boston Celtics. The Clips, meanwhile, are looking to snag their first title in franchise history.
