Talen Horton-Tucker had another inspired showing for the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday night, which left more than a few folks impressed. For his part, former NBA champ and current ESPN analyst/commentator Kendrick Perkins was so moved by the 20-year-old's performance that it prompted a comparison to the late, great Kobe Bryant — somewhat.
According to Perkins, Horton-Tucker might have just proved at this point that he deserves some Kobe-level treatment from the Lakers:
Talen has the most valuable contract in the league right now.
Not comparing game or skill but reminds me of the situation. He’s gonna be forced to have to start like a young Kobe running Eddie Jones outta town.
Too good to wait for his time, his time is now! Carry on…

On Sunday against cross-town rivals, the Los Angeles Clippers, Horton-Tucker led all scorers with an astounding 33-point scoring outburst on 11-of-17 shooting and 7-of-9 from the charity stripe. The 6-foot-4 shooting guard also collected 10 rebounds, four assists, and four steals, while also going 4-of-5 from downtown. He was clearly the best player on the evening, as he carried the Lakers to a 131-106 blowout victory against the Clippers.

This was Horton-Tucker's second consecutive eyebrow-raising performance, following Friday's 19-point, nine-rebound outing in another win against the Clippers. No less than superstar teammate LeBron James was left wide-eyed by Horton-Tucker's heroics on Friday, and we're pretty sure The King will have some more praise in store for his young guard after Sunday's showing.
In is rookie year with the Lakers last season, Horton-Tucker averaged just 5.7 points, 1.2 rebounds, and 1.0 assists in 13.5 minutes per contest. Based on what we've seen from him thus far, however, things could be much different for the former second-round pick this coming season.
