The Los Angeles Lakers dealt a huge blow to the Charlotte Hornets' playoffs aspirations, as L.A. secured a 129-115 victory in Staples Center against the visiting team.
After the win, Lakers wing Kentavious Caldwell-Pope was understandably pleased with his team's victory, and said that given their current standing, they are now more than willing to play the part of spoilers.
Having already been eliminated form playoff contention, the victory meant nothing for the Lakers on paper. However, they were able to dent Charlotte's playoff hopes, with the Hornets now sitting two games behind the eighth-seeded Miami Heat in the East.
For his part, Caldwell-Pope put up another noteworthy performance in this one, recording 25 points on an efficient 8-of-14 shooting from the floor. The 26-year-old also logged six three-pointers, four rebounds, four assists, and a steal. The 6-foot-5 shooting guard has stepped it up for L.A. of late, and has been able to put up respectable numbers since being inserted to the starting lineup due to a slew of injuries on the team.
The Lakers will be back in action on Sunday to take on the New Orleans Pelicans, but after that, their final five games will be against the Oklahoma City Thunder (Tuesday), Golden State Warriors (Thursday), Los Angeles Clippers (Friday), Utah Jazz (Sunday), and the Portland Trail Blazers (Tuesday), all of which are still battling for positioning in the West playoff picture.
