When Kevin Garnett was plotting his exit from the Minnesota Timberwolves before the 2007-08 season, he was trying to get traded to the Los Angeles Lakers so he could play with Kobe Bryant.
Unfortunately for Garnett and the Lakers, Bryant never answered his phone call. With that, KG went to the Boston Celtics instead.
Per John Karalis of Mass Live:
Garnett says the Warriors and Suns situations just weren’t right for him. He said his first choice was the Lakers, saying “I wanted to link with (Kobe Bryant),” but he says Bryant didn’t answer his call.
“I shouted at Kobe he didn’t pick the line up,” he told podcast hosts Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson. “T-Lue (Tyronn Lue) and Kobe were close and he said ‘shoot at him again and see what he on.’ So I shouted again and he didn’t get back, so I had to make a decision.”

Kevin Garnett and the Celtics defeated Kobe Bryant and the Lakers in the 2008 Finals. However, Kobe and the Purple and Gold got their revenge on KG and Boston in the 2010 Finals.
Garnett and Bryant were named as Hall of Fame finalists on Friday. It has been a great week for KG, who is getting his Celtics No. 5 jersey retired as well.
If Garnett and Bryant had joined forces on the Lakers, who knows how many championships the Lakers would have won.
