The Los Angeles Lakers were among the people who were caught off-guard by the sudden passing of Kobe Bryant. Understandably, the Lakers took their time in piecing together a statement to express their devastation at the loss as well as express their deepest condolences to Vanessa Bryant and the rest of the family.

The words the Lakers used for their statement clearly expresses the pain the entire organization is going through.
We are devastated and have been forever changed by the sudden loss of Kobe Bryant and his daughter, Gianna. We send our love to Vanessa, the Bryant family, and to the families of the other passengers.
Words cannot express what Kobe means to the Los Angeles Lakers, our fans, and our city. More than a basketball player, he was a beloved father, husband, and teammate. Their love and light will remain in our hearts forever.
They also announced that an initiative was started to help the families affected by the tragedy to stand up on their own feet once more.

Kobe Bryant, his 13-year-old daughter Gianna, and seven others were killed in a fatal helicopter accident on Sunday. They were supposed to head to a youth basketball tournament at the Mamba Sports Academy when the helicopter crashed. The NBA has since been mourning the losses they sustained in this tragedy, and the Lakers-Clippers game has been suspended in effect of this.
