On Tuesday evening, LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers lost their first game of the 2023-24 season to the Denver Nuggets by a score of 119-107. It was a frustrating result for James and the Lakers, who were hoping to exact some revenge on Denver after they ended Los Angeles' season in the Western Conference Finals this past postseason.
Still, during the game, James provided yet another example of why he is the smartest player in basketball history during a timeout.
James, who was mic'd up for the NBA on TNT broadcast, was speaking with D'Angelo Russell when the microphone caught him imparting a bit of basketball wisdom on his point guard.
“This game, next game, we've got to utilize you in the pick and roll,” said Russell.

“Pick and roll, and at the elbow,” responded James. “When I catch it at the elbow, it's not for me to score. I see everything.”
James is arguably the most dangerous person in the NBA with the basketball in his hands, even in year 21, due to his ability to see plays before they happen. Despite his otherwordly athleticism and physical profile, James' basketball IQ has always been his number one asset, and that's one aspect of his game that won't diminish even as he nears 39 years of age.
Still, the Lakers are now 0-1 on the young season and will look to bounce back when they open up their home slate on Thursday against the Phoenix Suns. That game is slated to tip off from the Crypto.com Arena at 10:00 PM ET.
