Even at 36, Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James continues to be one of the league's premier players. That distinction,  of course, comes with a massive amount of fame and fortune. According to Kurt Badenhausen of Forbes, the four-time MVP is inching closer to billionaire status and will likely join the three-comma club next year.

The King is one of the highest-paid players in the NBA this season, as he is set to rake in a cool $39.2 million in his third year in Hollywood. But all in all, LeBron is expected to add somewhere around $95.4 million to his bank account this season, with $64 million coming from endorsements, memorabilia, and media alone. That staggering amount will reportedly push his career earnings above $1 billion, with $700 million of those coming from his off-court ventures.

The Lakers forward, himself, hasn't been shy in the past about admitting his desire to become a billionaire athlete one day.

“It's my biggest milestone. Obviously. I want to maximize my business. And if I happen to get it, if I happen to be a billion-dollar athlete, ho. Hip hip hooray! Oh, my God, I'm gonna be excited,” James said in a GQ interview.

If LeBron James does join the prestigious three-comma club, he'll be the first active NBA player to do so. His net worth is currently listed at $500 million by Forbes.

The Lakers megastar will join other professional athletes on top of their sport, including Tiger Woods, Floyd Mayweather, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Lionel Messi in the active-player, three-comma club. NBA icon and Charlotte Hornets Michael Jordan is 2currently tabbed as the richest former professional athlete in the world.
