Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James made history on Thursday night, becoming just the third player in NBA history to reach the 35,000-point milestone. Now standing at 35,017 career points following their 109-98 loss to the Brooklyn Nets, James trails only Karl Malone and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar on the NBA's all-time scoring list.

Despite the loss, James still soaked in his historic accomplishment and humbly expressed his gratitude for the greats that paved the way for him and those that helped him get to where he stands today.

Via Dan Woike of the Los Angeles Times:

“First of all, I’m very humbled and very grateful to be part of such a great league and I love to do what … I mean, it’s a privilege to do what I love to do and that’s play the game of basketball, continue to inspire the youth and for me to be linked with some of the greats to ever play this game,” James said. “It’s always an honor. And I always just want to go out there and play the game the right way, inspire my teammates, inspire people that watch me and just try to be as good as I can be every single night and not really put a ceiling on my ability, or put a ceiling on what I can do as far as this game.

“And I’ve had some pretty good moments, and I’m very thankful for that.”

Point No. 35,000 came near the end of the first half when the four-time NBA MVP knocked down a free throw to score his 15th point of the evening.

James' incredible feat speaks volumes to not just his longevity but the level of sustained greatness he has played throughout his illustrious career. At this point, James still trails Malone by a little over 1,600 points while Kareem Abdul-Jabbar still possesses a greater than 3,000-point lead over The King.

The four-time NBA champion will likely get to the top of the historic list when his career is said and done, considering he did get to the 35k-mark faster than both The Mailman and Abdul-Jabbar. We are truly witnessing greatness with LeBron James and we should appreciate him while he still graces the NBA with his majesty.
