With two games remaining on the Los Angeles Lakers' current five-game road trip, head coach Luke Walton officially ruled rookie point guard Lonzo Ball out for the rest of the trip. The Lakers will practice on Thursday, play the Brooklyn Nets on Friday night at Barclays Center, then travel to play the Oklahoma City Thunder on Sunday afternoon at Chesapeake Energy Arena — all without their rookie point guard.

The Lakers made the official announcement through Twitter.

This will certainly make Lakers fans quite frustrated, as many have been perplexed by the team holding Ball out for so long with his sprained MCL. Now in the first day of February, Ball has still not seen any game action since back on Jan. 13 in a road win over the Dallas Mavericks.

Coach Walton gave a brief explanation as to why the team is holding Ball out of games in a video posted by the Lakers on Twitter.

“Today was our last real practice, Saturday will be a shootaround. He will not play before he practices, so he's out until we get home,” Walton said.

According to a tweet this afternoon from Tania Ganguli of the Los Angeles Times, Ball has yet to go through a practice on this road trip.

At this point, it's just a wait-and-see sort of thing, as the team continues to play it safe with him. In 36 starts this season for the Lakers, Ball is currently averaging 10.2 points, a team-high 7.1 assists, 7.1 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game in 33.9 minutes of action per contest.
