If LeBron James were a betting man, it would be instructive regarding Anthony Davis' trade request to know how much money the four-time MVP would be willing to wager that the Los Angeles Lakers ultimately end up with the NBA's latest stranded superstar.

But James isn't, of course, at least concerning the NBA, and already must tread lightly as the league works itself into a frenzy over Davis' availability because his close friend and agent, Rich Paul of Klutch Sports, began representing the New Orleans Pelicans superstar in September.

But if that ink-splotched writing on the wall, plus recent reporting that suggests Davis prefers to wear forum purple and gold, isn't enough for Lakers nation to get excited, updated odds from Las Vegas on where he'll be playing next season should do the trick.

According to BetOnline.ag, one of the most popular sportsbooks on the web, gives Los Angeles +150 odds at landing Davis before 2019-20 tips off. The Boston Celtics are next up at +175, while the Pelicans, with whom Davis has said he won't sign an extension this summer, are a distant third at +500.

It's no secret the Lakers will do almost whatever it takes to acquire Davis, and hardly a stretch to suggest the five-time All-Star would be pleased to play in Los Angeles, where he resides during the offseason.

What's less certain is whether New Orleans will be comfortable bending to the implicit will of a player who just requested a trade, especially considering the Lakers' potential trade packages – centering around some combination of Brandon Ingram, Lonzo Ball, Kyle Kuzma, Josh Hart, Ivica Zubac, and future first-round picks – fall short of those that could theoretically be offered by Boston and other teams.

One complicating factor for Danny Ainge: The Celtics can't trade for Davis until this summer, when Kyrie Irving hits free agency, because league rules prohibit teams from trading for a Designated Player while one is already on the roster.

Los Angeles, to be certain, is the easy safe bet to land Davis prior to next season – even before accounting for the betting world's appraisal.
