The last time the Los Angeles Lakers played the Golden State Warriors, it was Christmas, and Rajon Rondo finished with 15 points, 10 assists and five rebounds while LeBron James exited the game in the third quarter due to a groin injury in what ended up being a blowout win for the Lakers.
Now, it looks like Los Angeles will enter its Monday night showdown against the Warriors without either player.
While nothing is definitive just yet, Lakers head coach Luke Walton said that he does not expect to have James or Rondo when Los Angeles plays host to Golden State on Monday evening, according to Dave McMenamin of ESPN.
James has been sidelined ever since injuring his groin last month and Rondo is out after undergoing a second surgery on his hand.
Since the Lakers' 127-101 win over the Warriors on Christmas, the two teams have been going in opposite directions.
Without LeBron, Los Angeles has gone just 5-7, and while the Lakers did defeat the Oklahoma City Thunder on the road in their last game, they also suffered home losses to the New York Knicks and Cleveland Cavaliers.
Meanwhile, Golden State has gone 9-2 and has won seven straight games. Not only that, but DeMarcus Cousins made his season debut for the Warriors on Friday night, scoring 14 points in 15 minutes in a win over the Los Angeles Clippers.
The Dubs now own a record of 32-14 on the year and have reclaimed the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference. Meanwhile, the Lakers are 25-21 and are holding on to the eighth and final playoff spot.
