Los Angeles Lakers superstar forward Anthony Davis made some headlines this past weekend when he put his L.A. mansion on the market for close to $8 million.
Davis figures to be a free agent this summer once he declines his player option, and it would be easy to blow this story out of proportion. However, Lakers fans have little reason to panic.
Rachel Nichols of ESPN clarified the house Davis sold as essentially just added property value, as Davis does not even live there during the summer.
Paul Pierce and Kendrick Perkins joined Nichols on ESPN's “The Jump” to discuss AD's future in L.A., with both Pierce and Perkins agreeing there is zero chance he leaves the Lakers this summer.
Anthony Davis put his Southern California home up for sale, but DON'T PANIC Lakers fans, it's not the one he's living in this season because it's too far from the practice facility. Pierce even took things a step further, saying he believes anthony Davis will be with the Lakers for remainder of his career even when LeBron James retires.
Article Continues BelowIndeed, previous reports have suggested the work in convincing Davis to stay in L.A. is “mostly done.” The Lakers gave up multiple future pieces last summer under the pretense that they would re-sign Davis as a staple of the franchise, and it seems unlikely they would sell low on his talent.
Plus, Davis would probably be unwise to leave L.A. The Lakers (49-14) were the best team in the Western Conference prior to the suspension of play due to coronavirus, and they were one of the top contenders to win the NBA title. In fact, record-wise, they were only behind the Milwaukee Bucks.
Moreover, Davis and LeBron have complemented each other all season long, and James in particular has seemed more energized playing with AD. Their chemistry is evident, leaving AD with little reason to consider leaving.
The NBA might not be able to conclude the 2019-20 season, but either way, it seems likely Davis will re-sign with the Lakers.
