According to several reports, Anthony Davis has informed the New Orleans Pelicans that he would like to be traded.
There will certainly be several teams interested in his services, which is why Richard Jefferson thinks the Lakers need to strike while the iron is hot.
Jefferson joined ESPN for Monday morning's episode of “Get up.” He brought up several interesting points during the discussion, including the fact that Los Angeles missed on acquiring Paul George.
“(The Lakers) failed with Paul George,” Jefferson said. “And he said it. He said, ‘If they would have traded for me, I most likely would be in a Lakers uniform.
“You cannot wait (to make a deal for Davis),” Jefferson added. Understand that Rich Paul gave the Lakers a head start. Boston can't make an offer right now. We are now informing the entire world that Anthony Davis is now ready to go. This is your head start. Get it done now. If they don't (get it done), the Lakers have failed.”

On Monday morning, Davis' agent informed ESPN that he will not accept a contract extension from the Pelicans. Just keep in mind that Davis' agent is Rich Paul — the same man that represents LeBron James.
“Anthony wants to be traded to a team that allows him a chance to win consistently and compete for a championship,” Paul told ESPN. “Anthony wanted to be honest and clear with his intentions and that's the reason for informing them of this decision now. That's in the best interests of both Anthony's and the organization's future.”
Davis, now 25 years of age, will be eligible to sign a five-year, $240 million supermax extension this summer. However, the former Kentucky Wildcat can become a free agent in the summer of 2020. According to ESPN, New Orleans has expressed no desire to trade him before the Feb. 7 trade deadline.
Where Davis will land remains to be seen, but there is no doubting the fact that he would help a lot of teams. Let's see if the Lakers make a move.
