Chicago Bulls legend and NBA Hall of Famer Scottie Pippen says the Los Angeles Lakers treated point guard D'Angelo Russell unfairly.

The Lakers drafted Russell with the second overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft, but they traded him in the summer of 2017 to the Brooklyn Nets because they were planning to draft Lonzo Ball in the 2017 Draft.

The move has benefited D'Angelo Russell immensely, as he made the All-Star team this season and is one of the best young guards in the NBA.

Still, Scottie Pippen believes the Lakers gave up on Russell too soon.

The phone incident D'Angelo Russell had with Nick Young on the Lakers was a bad look for DLo, and the Lakers were looking for a mature player to run their offense. Russell was only 20-years-old, though. You can't expect a young kid to be ready for the NBA life right away.

Los Angeles might be regretting parting ways with Russell. The lefty is averaging 20.3 points, 3.8 rebounds and 6.6 assists per game this season for Brooklyn while shooting 43.6 percent from the field, 37.2 percent from beyond the arc and 82.4 percent from the free-throw line.

That's the type of production the Lakers wish they could get from Lonzo Ball, who is only putting up 9.9 points this season.
