There are a lot of questions surrounding the Los Angeles Lakers' roster amid their poor start to the 2021-22 season, one of which is whether to trade Talen Horton-Tucker or not.
LA is aiming to compete for the title with LeBron James leading the way, but it has become apparently clear that they can't win with the current players they have. Unfortunately, the Purple and Gold franchise doesn't have money assets to trade for aside from their young forward in THT.
According to NBA insider Jordan Schultz, as many as seven teams have expressed interest in trading for Horton-Tucker. But while the Lakers are expected to ask for “a lot” to deal him, they are reportedly hesitant to pull the trigger since they really value the youngster.
Talen Horton-Tucker has become a trade target of as many as seven teams, league sources say. It will take “a lot” to get him though, I’m told. #Lakers, who really value THT, are hesitant. He just turned 21 and is averaging a career-best 11 PPG, 5 RPG and 3 assists.

The Lakers have been involved in a lot of trade rumors recently. They have been linked with the likes of Detroit Pistons forward Jerami Grant and Philadelphia 76ers wantaway guard Ben Simmons. However if there are some truth to those talks, it's hard to imagine that Talen Horton-Tucker won't be thrown in as a chip in negotiations in order to pull off such trades.
As Schultz noted, THT cannot be traded until January 15 because of his Bird Rights, so at least the Lakers still have time to evaluate their options. If they are able to turn around their season by then, there might not be a need for them to tweak the roster.
Nonetheless if the Lakers continue to struggle, then Rob Pelinka and Co. might have to consider making drastic changes to improve the roster and create a legitimate title contender.
