Aaron Gordon's game has grown astronomically over the course of the offseason, and it wasn't any more evident than during a 121-108 win over the struggling, but dangerous, Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday night.
The 6-foot-9 forward poured in a massive 40 points and collected 15 rebounds along with four assists — becoming the first Orlando Magic player to record such stat line since Shaquille O'Neal did so in 1995, according to Zach Oliver of Magic Blog.
Gordon is also the first Magic player to have that same stat line while recording four steals and dropping six treys, which he did with a much-improved acumen from distance.
The 22-year-old was poised and collected, dropping 20 points in each half and playing a whopping 44 minutes as he helped his team snap out of a nine-game losing streak.
“I was just aggressive, taking opportunities, not passing anything up. If the open pass presented itself, then I was making the right read,” Gordon said, according to The Associated Press.
Aaron Gordon made 13-of-23 shots from the floor, 6-of-12 from deep, and 8-of-11 from the free throw line, coming only one point short of tying his career-high against the Brooklyn Nets earlier this season.
The Magic forward has put up some of the best numbers for any frontcourt player since Shaq and that will count for something when it's time to cash in on his hard work.
