It has been a struggle out of the gate for the Dallas Mavericks, who are currently sitting at the bottom of the standings in the Western Conference through the first 19 games played.

Dallas has been playing a bit short-handed in the backcourt without one of their key contributors from last season in point guard Seth Curry, who is recovering from a stress reaction of his left tibia that he suffered in early October. Although he is progressing through his rehab, Curry isn't expected to make his return soon, according to Eddie Sefko of SportsDay.

Seth Curry is coming off his most productive campaign where he posted career-highs across the board by averaging 12.8 points on 48.1 percent shooting from the field along with 42.5 from beyond the arc, 2.6 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.1 steals in 29.0 minutes per game. He had also experienced a notable uptick in his performance as a starter, averaging 14.7 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game.

In his absence, the Mavs have shifted toward giving much of the backcourt responsibilities to rookie point guard Dennis Smith Jr., who is averaging 14.3 points, 4.4 assists, and 4.2 rebounds per game. This includes three games with 20 or more points, notching 10 or more assists once and tallying at least seven dimes five times.

The 27-year-old is currently in the final season of his two-year, $6 million deal with the Mavs. His return at some point in the next few weeks should provide some much-needed stability and scoring punch.
