So far on the 2021-22 NBA season, the Memphis Grizzlies have been one of the most surprising squads in the league. A big part of that has been the ascension of third-year point guard, Ja Morant. As the Grizzlies continue to climb up the Western Conference standings, Morant also continues to produce for his team night after night.

On Wednesday, Morant had perhaps his best game of the year, in a 118-110 road victory over the San Antonio Spurs. To go along with his five rebounds, eight assists, and two steals, Morant ended up with 41 points on 53 percent shooting from the field (60 percent from three-point range). Ja was playing the game with a heavy heart as his grandmother has recently fallen ill and he showed her some love with his postgame remarks:

He clearly has a soft spot in his heart for his grandma and one could imagine how hard it would be to perform at such a high level with so much going on personally. It is a testament to Morant's maturity as a basketball player and is yet another showcase of his ability to lead by example to matter the circumstances. On the year, Morant is averaging 25.3 points, 6.9 assists, and 6.0 rebounds per game.

The assists and rebounds are right on par with his career averages in his first two seasons, but the points are up from 19.1 per game in 2020-21 to now being 25.3 in 2021-22. Up next for Ja and the Grizzlies is a huge home matchup with the Utah Jazz on Friday night.
