While many stars have been falling like bowling pins due to the COVID-19 situation, Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant made his surprising return on Monday night.

His much-anticipated comeback, however, was spoiled by the Oklahoma City Thunder after defeating the Grizzlies, 102-99. Morant, who missed 16 games due to a knee injury and COVID-19 protocols, finished with all-around numbers of 16 points, six rebounds, and eight assists, although he looked a little offbeat.

But despite the loss, Morant was in a grateful mood. Just moments after the game, the high-flying, rim-rattling guard took to Twitter and expressed his gratitude to all those who supported him during his extended absence.

The former Rookie of the Year has truly emerged as one of the most electrifying stars in the NBA today. He has led the Grizzlies to a 19-13 record despite a less-than-stellar roster devoid of big names other than his.

It was awesome to see Morant and Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander go at it. They are two of the fast-rising studs in the league and both have a strong case to make their first All-Star Game.

While Morant admitted it was frustrating to lose in his first game back for the Grizzlies, he expressed confidence that he'll regain his elite level soon (via ESPN).

“I’m right there. I’m definitely real close.”

The Grizzlies will next face the Golden State Warriors on the road on Thursday.
