Ja Morant helped Grind City hoops fans enjoy another basketball high as he led the Memphis Grizzlies to an overwhelming win over the Los Angeles Lakers on Saturday night. However, what many failed to comprehend was the level of play the rookie has displayed so far this season.
It wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that Morant is unlike any other rookie the Grizzlies have had in its short history. In fact, according to Justin Kubatko of Stat Muse, the Murray State standout is the first rookie in franchise history to have a back-to-back 20-10 game for the team.

Morant was all over the floor for the Grizzlies on Saturday. Besides the 27 points and 14 assists he gave out, he also grabbed six rebounds and poked the ball loose once to grab the W. The Lakers were unable to contain the Rookie of the Year favorite as he had his way around LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
Moreover, it wasn't only the stat sheet that he tried to stuff during that game. He tried to give Davis the business by soaring above him for the dunk. While AD got the last laugh as Morant got slapped with the offensive foul, it sent a clear message to the Lakers and the rest of the league: the Grizzlies rising star will clearly fly and dominate his opponents regardless of their standing on the conference.
This win couldn't have come at a better time for the Grizzlies since they are trying to secure their spot in the playoff race. If Ja Morant continues to play this way, there's no question that Memphis will be playing playoff basketball come April.
