The Memphis Grizzlies are reportedly listening to trade offers for center Marc Gasol, but the franchise might not get a grand return for the veteran big man.

According to an anonymous NBA scout who spoke to Chris Mannix of the Crossover, Gasol isn't the same player on the defensive side of the ball anymore.

A brief survey of rival team executives suggests the trade market for Gasol and Conley may not be robust. “Marc, defensively, is pretty limited,” an Eastern Conference personnel scout told The Crossover. “Physically, he can’t stay in front of a lot of switches.”

Marc Gasol won the 2013 Defensive Player of the Year award, but that was six years ago. Now at the age of 33, Gasol is a shell of himself on defense and that could prevent the Grizzlies from getting a nice haul for him on the trade market.

Offensively, Gasol is still effective. The three-time All-Star is averaging 15.3 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 4.7 assists per game this season and shooting 43.4 percent from the field, 35.3 percent from beyond the arc, and 75.9 percent from the free-throw line.

Gasol is making $24,119,025 this season and he has a player option worth $25,595,700 for next year. The NBA trade deadline is Feb. 7. It will be interesting to see if Memphis really does trade one of the best players in franchise history and embark on a full rebuild.
