The Memphis Grizzlies are interviewing Golden State Warriors assistant Jarron Collins for their vacant head coaching position.

League sources told ESPN senior writer Ramona Shelburne that Collins interviewed for the job on May 5.

This isn't the first time Collins has interviewed for an NBA head coaching job. He reportedly interviewed for the Atlanta Hawks' head coaching position last year. The Hawks eventually hired Lloyd Pierce.

The 40-year-old Collins (the twin brother of Jason Collins) played in the NBA from 2001 to 2011. He suited up for the Utah Jazz, Phoenix Suns, Los Angeles Clippers, and Portland Trail Blazers.

Collins told NBA.com's Steve Aschburner on December 24, 2018 he's fortunate to learn from great head coaches such as Jerry Sloan, Mike Montgomery, and Alvin Gentry.

Collins also said he's always had an inkling to coach in the pros, per Aschburner.

I've always been fascinated with the game plans. And I wasn't the most athletic guy in the world, so I really had to be locked into our game plan and what it was we needed to do.

Learning player tendencies and that type of stuff. I knew that once I got done playing, I wanted to stay involved in basketball.

It's what I know, it's what I love, it's what I have a passion for. When this opportunity presented itself, I was so glad. And thank God, I said yes.

Collins became the Warriors' player development coach under Steve Kerr in the summer of 2014. The team promoted him to its assistant coach position a year later.

Collins has helped Golden State win three NBA titles in the past four seasons. While NBA aficionados don't expect the Grizzlies to contend for the title in the next few seasons, Collins' ability to develop younger players should serve them well.

Will Jarron Collins become the Memphis Grizzlies' next head coach? Stay tuned.
