Miami Heat center Bam Adebayo has recently been added to Team USA's training camp roster, which will start preparing for the FIBA World Cup on August 5-9. Although it isn't clear if he's going to be part of the delegation that will head to China for the main tournament, he already considers this opportunity as a great honor, per his interview with NBA.com.

“It’s a great honor to wear those three letters across my chest. I get to represent myself, my family and most importantly the Miami HEAT.”

Team USA lost a significant amount of talent when Anthony Davis, James Harden, Damian Lillard, and several others withdrew their commitment to playing for the national team in the World Cup to focus on the upcoming season. Instead of recruiting other superstars such as LeBron James and Kawhi Leonard, USA Basketball decided to give younger players a chance. Adebayo, who put up 8.9 points and 7.3 rebounds for the Heat last season, was one of the last-minute call-ups.

He will compete with fellow NBA players for the right to have one of the 15 roster spots on the USA team that will head to China to compete in the World Cup from August 31-September 15.

Adebayo has worked on improving his game this summer, and if there's one thing that he feels he can contribute to Team USA in the World Cup, it's his shooting.

“I feel like it’s gotten more consistent, and I feel like that’s going to help me not only in the season, but going into FIBA.”
