Tom Thibodeau and Luke Walton are at the top of the list for betting odds on which NBA coach will be the first to be fired this season, per BetOnline.ag. Thibodeau's situation is more of a concern than Walton's, but both are coming under scrutiny early in the season.
Thibodeau is no surprise at all at +200 odds. The Minnesota Timberwolves are still trying to sort out the Jimmy Butler situation and there's as much uncertainty in Minnesota as there is anywhere in the NBA. The Timberwolves are off to a 2-2 start this year, but should they falter early on, Thibs' job could be in serious jeopardy. The saga with Butler has already made him look bad this year.
While it's no surprise to find Tom Thibodeau on this list, Luke Walton is a bit perplexing at +300. The young coach for the Los Angeles Lakers is seen as one of the up-and-coming coaches in the sport. But a three-game losing streak has fans of the purple and gold worried. Most Lakers fans didn't envision a championship this season, but a playoff trip was a guarantee with LeBron James on the roster, right?
That doesn't look so certain, especially when you consider that the Western Conference is jam-packed with playoff contenders. It's unclear whether or not Magic Johnson and Rob Pelinka would pull the plug on Luke Walton midseason, but the oddsmakers in Las Vegas seem to think it's a distinct possibility.
