Minnesota Timberwolves swingman Jimmy Butler and his weird antics were on full display yet again on Wednesday night when the Wolves battled the Los Angeles Lakers in Staples Center. In a rather peculiar sequence, Butler was seen exhibiting an unconventional defensive technique on Lakers forward Brandon Ingram. Unfortunately for Butler, it did not end well.

At one point in the third quarter, Jimmy Butler literally put his right hand inside his shorts while guarding Ingram man-to-man:

Jimmy Butler did not see Tyson Chandler's pick from his weak side and was absolutely caught off guard. Ingram easily slashed through the lane and used a pump fake to get Karl-Anthony Towns in the air before extending towards the rim for an easy layup.

Jimmy Butler has a reputation as a defensive specialist, but the four-time All-Defensive team member was simply outclassed in the particular play. Then again, it could be said that he brought it upon himself, though apparently he may have been trying to cover up some kind of injury:

Brandon Ingram scored 20 big points on the evening (8-14 FG, 2-2 FT) along with two 3-pointers, five rebounds, six assists, one steal, and two blocks, as he helped the Lakers overcome the Wolves in the tightly contested matchup.

The 114-110 win is the Lakers' fifth victory of the season (against six losses), while the Wolves dropped to 4-8 after losing their fourth straight game. Minnesota has not yet won a game on the road all season as this bizarre campaign continues with Jimmy Butler still on the roster after his trade request.
