For the first time, Philadelpia 76ers All-Star Jimmy Butler has spilled the beans on what exactly happened moments before the now-infamous practice he had with his former team, the Minnesota Timberwolves.
In a guest appearance on The J.J. Redick Podcast, Butler revealed what went on prior to the practice session where he unleashed on his teammates and the Wolves front office. As transcribed by The Ringer, the fiery swingman said that he snapped the moment when someone told him he had to attend practice:
“Yeah, I’m getting to it. It’s not really heated [with Wolves management]. We’re literally just talking, and then somebody says: “You’re gonna practice.” Now, first of all, I have a for-real problem with authority. When somebody’s telling me what to do as a grown man, I have a problem with it. So now you done lit the match, but ain’t nothin’ on fire yet. You just lit the match.”
Butler continued:

By now, everyone knows what occurred within the Timberwolves practice facility after the unidentified person told Butler what to do. Things became more awkward as Butler played several games with Minnesota before he finally got his wish to be traded.
The good thing is that it's all over and that, with the Sixers, he feels as comfortable.
Meanwhile, the Timberwolves are picking up the pieces after a tumultuous start.
