As front offices continue to make moves to form the best possible lineups for their teams, the Minnesota Timberwolves are taking a different approach to give them more flexibility.

It has been reported by John Meyer of Canis Hoopus that head coach and team president Tom Thibodeau is opting to keep their 15th roster spot open instead, which will allow them to sign another talented player just before the season starts on possibly a minimum deal only, once other teams finalize their lineups.

Heading into training camp, a lot of franchises sign players to training camp deals and have them compete for a roster spot. However, with the amount of talent available, they are forced to cut some and allow them to become free agents. The Wolves are aware of this and would like to take advantage of that situation, which will be very beneficial for them.

After adding the likes of Jimmy Butler, Jamal Crawford, Jeff Teague and Taj Gibson to their fold this offseason, they already have a vastly improved roster. They could have the chance to sign someone for their last open spot on a small deal, and not commit a long-term contract on him. The flexibility it would bring will be crucial for them, if in any case they will be needing a player playing a specific position in the future, as well as maintain their cap below the luxury tax line.
