The Minnesota Timberwolves aim to roll the dice on a forgotten player with the possible addition of center Joakim Noah, who is currently under contract with the New York Knicks.

According to Jon Krawczynski of The Atlantic, Noah in a Timberwolves jersey this could become a reality at any time.

The spark plug center only played in seven games last season, as he battled suspension, injuries, and clashes with former head coach Jeff Hornacek.

After getting paid $72 million over four years, this was extremely disappointing for the Knicks, and there is a possibility that they would be willing to part with Noah.

The Timberwolves make sense as a possible landing spot for several reasons.

Noah already has a connection with head coach Tom Thibodeau. Noah played for the defensive mastermind for five seasons in Chicago, where he was the anchor of an excellent defensive team. Thibodeau has also gotten a reputation for pushing to acquire former players, and he already has three ex-Bulls signed to the roster in Jimmy Butler, Taj Gibson, and Derrick Rose.

Another reason why a Noah acquisition makes sense is that the Timberwolves also have a need for center depth. They have one of the best players in the league in Karl Anthony-Towns starting at the five, but their next best center is Gorgui Dieng, who has been streaky for the Timberwolves. Adding Noah would provide much-needed depth.

As the Timberwolves attempt to make some noise next year in a stacked Western Conference, they need all the help that they can get. Taking a gamble on Joakim Noah seems like a smart move, and if he can return anywhere close to the level he played under Thibodeau before, he could certainly provide a huge boost to the team.
