Tom Thibodeau sees the the similarities in the roster of his currentTimberwolves and the team he inherited with the Chicago Bulls in the Summer of 2010.
There was a mix on young guys and veterans that just needed some guidance to become a better team. The Bulls in 2009-10 went 41-41 and were the 8th seed in the east. In the offseason, they let go players they didn't need, and added players like Carlos Boozer, Kyle Korver, and Omer Asik, as well as others. Because of those moves, they went 62-20 the next season and won the Eastern Conference.
The Timberwolves drafted Kris Dunn, and added players such as Jordan Hill, Brandon Rush, and Cole Aldrich. Not star players, but veterans that can help out with the young core of Karl-Anthony Towns, Andrew Wiggins, Zach LaVine, and Gourgi Dieng.
But with all that certainty, comes some uncertainty. The best player in Timberwolves history, Kevin Garnett, has seemed to be lost in all this planning.
Thibodeau doesn't know what his role will be this season, but it is obvious what it should be. KG should be the mentor of the team, displaying his knowledge over the season – if he wants to come back and play for another season at all. If he does, he can still mentor Towns and show him what it takes to be the best.
