Heading into this upcoming NCAA men's basketball season, Missouri freshman forward Michael Porter Jr. is widely regarded as the top talent in the country.

This has immediately built the assumption that he could be another player that decides to go the one-and-done route and enter the NBA next year. However, Porter Jr. informed TMZ that it isn't necessarily the case just yet.

Although Porter is leaving the door open to returning to Missouri past his freshman year, it will be dictated by how his initial season goes. If he performs well as expected, there would be no reason for him to pass up the opportunity to be one of the top selections in next year's draft.

This would likely have to be a unique situation that would pull him to return to Missouri for his sophomore year. It's not out of the realm of possibility, but things are hedging toward him leaving for the NBA next spring.

Porter Jr. is coming off an impressive senior year at Nathan Hale that saw him earn the Gatorade Player of the Year for boys basketball, averaging 36.2 points, 13.8 rebounds, and 5.0 assists per game. He helped lead his school to the top ranking in the country by winning the state title, finishing with an unblemished 29-0 record.
