New Orleans Pelicans All-Star guard Jrue Holiday has recently emerged as one of the hottest prospects in the league as the trade market heats up. According to a recent report, the Denver Nuggets and the Miami Heat are two of the front-runners to land the services of the 6-foot-3 combo guard should the Pelicans decide to place him on the trading block. This is via The Athletic's Shams Charania.
Holiday could become the target of trade talks throughout the NBA, with teams such as Denver and Miami believed to be possible destinations.
Holiday has been outstanding for the Pelicans all season long, averaging 19.7 points (on 43.5 percent shooting), 5.1 rebounds, 6.5 assists, 1.8 steals, and 0.7 blocks, while also connecting on 1.9 3-pointers per ballgame on a 34.1-percent clip. Despite his tremendous level of play, however, New Orleans continues to struggle. The Pelicans are now 9-23, and are just half a game ahead of the surging Golden State Warriors at the very bottom of the Western Conference.
Shams adds that Holiday's current situation, coupled by his team's shortcomings, might just lead to the 10-year veteran parting ways with the Pelicans sooner rather than later.

Holiday has embraced the leadership position this season, but he wants to compete at the age of 29 with free agency looming for him in 2021 ($27.1 million player option for 2021-22).
For New Orleans, now would be an ideal time to trade Holiday, considering the fact that he could end up walking away from the team as a free agent by the end of next season. Getting some value back from a potential trade deal right now would definitely be better than losing him for nothing next summer.
With the trade deadline looming, similar storylines will definitely being to emerge, but surely, Holiday will be one of the most coveted trade prospects within the next couple of months.
