The New Orleans Pelicans are in for some trouble after their All-Star big man in Anthony Davis got injured in their Monday game against the Detroit Pistons. Davis went to the bench in the third quarter after sustaining an ankle injury.

Fellow big man DeMarcus Cousins carried the load in the fourth, leading the team to a 112-109 win at the Smoothie King Center. Despite the injury, Davis contributed 30 points and ten rebounds.

It was an awkward alley-oop attempt at the 4:41 mark of the third quarter that caused his ankle injury. Cousins then took over and scored a whopping 15 points in the last quarter.

He finished with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Rajon Rondo had 12 points and 15 assists, while E’Twaun Moore chipped in 23 points. The Pelicans now own a 20-19 win-loss slate.

Throughout his NBA career, Davis has been notorious for having questionable durability. Despite being a generational talent with his combination of skill and size, he won't make a difference if he's not playing at all. Luckily for the Pelicans, Cousins is at their disposal as he is equally capable as Davis to carry the team on his shoulders.

All eyes will be trained on New Orleans for the latest development on Davis' status in the coming days. He has already missed a number of games due to an assortment of injuries, and this latest mishap only adds to the grey cloud that hovers above his medical record.

New Orleans has no choice, though, but to roll with what they have. When both healthy, Davis and Cousins instantly form what's arguably the best big man tandem in the NBA.
