Brandon Ingram left the game midway through the second quarter after apparently suffering a blow to the head, and he did not return to the contest. He was still being evaluated after the game, but it appears the worst has been avoided.
New Orleans scored just 44 points in the second half with Ingram in the locker room, losing grip on the contest and falling to 1-5 on the season.
Article Continues BelowNot a lot has gone right for the Pelicans in the early going, but Ingram is showcasing the kind of talent that made him the No. 2 overall pick for the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2016 NBA Draft.
Even though he played just over 13 minutes on Saturday, Ingram is still averaging 23.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 4.2 assists while shooting over 50 percent from beyond the arc. While Pelicans veterans like Jrue Holiday have struggled to find a rhythm, Ingram has been a dependable playmaker.
The former Duke star had always shown promise with the Lakers, but he also dealt with injuries and a blood clot issue that caused him to miss a good chunk of the 2018-19 season. Ultimately, Los Angeles was willing to part ways with its young star in order to land Anthony Davis.
The Pelicans are likely to be cautious with their young star as they try to get their season back on track.
