Anthony Davis is hopeful he and DeMarcus Cousins can reunite on the New Orleans Pelicans next season.

Cousins will become an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2019. The four-time All-Star played last year with the Pelicans, but suffered a torn Achilles tendon in January.

“He will be a free agent next year,” Davis told Marc J. Spears of The Undefeated. “Hopefully, down the line we can reconnect. Of course, it was a s—– situation. But I felt like we had something going. I think if he would have played in the playoff series against the Warriors it would be different.”

DeMarcus Cousins reportedly rejected a two-year contract extension in the $40 million range from the Pelicans after he tore his left Achilles tendon before the season ended. When that offer was declined by Cousins, the Pelicans took it off the table.

Cousins didn’t receive any offers once free agency began July 1, so he called the Warriors and expressed interest in joining their already stacked roster. The phone call worked, as Boogie signed a one-year, $5.3 million deal with Golden State.

Cousin, 28, was averaging 25.2 points and 12.9 rebounds in 48 games while shooting 47.0 percent from the field and 35.4 percent from beyond the arc with the Pelicans last season. According to Spears, DeMarcus Cousins is aware of Anthony Davis' interest in him re-signing with New Orleans.
