John Calipari is one of the more known and skilled head coaches in basketball, as he has been the head coach of the Kentucky Wildcats since 2009.
But despite his reputation and competence, not everybody believes that he should try and get a coaching job in the most reputable and competent basketball league in the world — the NBA.
Jeff Goodman of ESPN asked DeMarcus Cousins, a former Wildcat, if he thinks Calipari will coach in the NBA again. Cousins said:
“I don't think so. He's in a position to walk into the sunset. He's in the perfect place.”
But in terms of competence alone, Cousins does think that Calipari has what it takes to be an NBA coach. Take a look at the follow-up tweet by Jeff Goodman:
Cousins added he thinks, partially due to coaching all the one-and-dones, that Cal would be much better equipped now than the first time around. "He was young. You live and learn. He's dealt with all types of personnel, future pros -and that's prepared himself to deal with pros." https://t.co/RVurKOXXLo

Indeed, Calipari had to deal with a lot of one-and-done players, including Anthony Davis, John Wall, and Karl-Anthony Towns — all are playing significant roles on their respective NBA teams.
And of course, let's not forget about Cousins himself, who is averaging 25.4 points, 12.7 rebounds and 5.1 assists for the New Orleans Pelicans.
If these players prove something, it's that Calipari has a way with his coaching that lets his players be NBA-ready and achieve their fullest potentials.
Calipari's talent may still translate well today in the NBA, but at least for Cousins, someone who has personally known Calipari, it's isn't going to happen anytime soon.
