The New Orleans Pelicans have added another healthy body to their roster as they’ve recently come to terms with free agent guard Martell Webster to join them in training camp. He will now have a chance to compete for a roster spot, according to Brett Martel of the Associated Press.

The 6-foot-7 swingman is a 10-year NBA veteran who was selected sixth overall in the 2005 draft by the Portland Trail Blazers. He suited up for two other franchises, and last played in the league back in the 2014-15 campaign for the Washington Wizards. He was ruled out the following season to repair the labrum and damaged cartilage in his right hip, but after he fully recovered, he did not generate interest from around the league anymore.
Article Continues BelowWebster made it known earlier this offseason that he is ready for a comeback and wants to have the opportunity to showcase his skill set, and prove that he still has a lot left in the tank. He finally received an invite last week from the Pelicans, together with other free agents for a workout, and now he is one step closer to completing his return to the NBA. Before being forced to remain on the sidelines, he was playing solid basketball, and even has decent career averages of 8.7 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.0 assists in 24.0 minutes per game.
Although it will be a tall order for Webster to make the final cut, one thing that can be expected from him is he will give all the team's guards a run for their money. His presence will definitely make training camp even more competitive for the Pelicans, and with experience, it will not come as a complete surprise if he will once again play at the highest level.
