The proliferation of score-first guards today in the NBA is redefining the position – if it hasn’t been already – but from time to time, we are reminded what a point guard’s primary duty is, which is to distribute the ball on the floor. On Sunday, that’s exactly what New Orleans Pelicans guard Rajon Rondo did, as the veteran court general dished out a season-high 18 dimes to help his team notch a 131-124 win over the Philadelphia 76ers at home.

Rondo also finished the game with 13 points, two rebounds, and five steals in an all-around clinic in playmaking. Rondo figured greatly in the Pelicans’ huge 44-point fourth quarter in which the 31-year-old guard recorded six assists.
Rajon Rondo missed 14 games earlier this season due to a groin injury, but clearly hasn’t lost his touch when it comes to setting the table on offense and finding open teammates. He is leading the Pelicans in assists with 8.1 per game while averaging 7.5 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.0 steals.
With a number of excellent toys to play with on offense, DeMarcus Cousins and Anthony Davis in particular, Rondo is seemingly doing a fine job of maximizing the brimming talent on the team, as evidenced by the Pelicans being fifth in the league in scoring and second in assists.
