With Zion Williamson yet to play a single game this season, the New Orleans Pelicans have found themselves at the bottom of the team standings after seven contests. The Pelicans hold a troubling record of 1-6, tied with the Orlando Magic, as of writing, for the unenviable distinction as the worst team in the league.

The former no. 1 overall pick is still recovering from an offseason foot surgery, and former teammate JJ Redick couldn't help but express his concern for Williamson, per Ian Begley of SNY.

“Of course I would be worried just in general about Zion, given his injury history. There’s certainly a lot more at play here than whether he ends up leaving the Pelicans in five years or four years or whatever it is.”

The Pelicans have a more formidable lineup than the Magic, but the absence of Zion Williamson puts the team in a deep hole.

“Zion has to be in better shape. And I think if Zion’s out on the court with Brandon (Ingram) and the young nucleus they have, there’s a lot to be excited about if I was a Pelicans fan.”

Zion Williamson's co-star in Brandon Ingram already missed his first game over the weekend due to a right hip contusion. Meanwhile, the burly power forward is penciled as weeks away from returning. Williamson is coming off a strong sophomore campaign where he made strides as a playmaking four.

The Pelicans will have to find help from deep within their roster in order to keep the ship afloat until their stars are back on the court.
