The NBA installed the Designated Player Extension to help teams keep their star players. The Pelicans can offer Anthony Davis an extra $87.3 million, but according to a report, that money won't factor into Davis' decision of whether to stay or leave New Orleans.
According to Sam Amick of The Athletic, Anthony Davis does not see the extra $87.3 million that New Orleans is expected to offer in a five-year, $239.5 million supermax extension this summer as a factor in his eventual decision.

Kawhi Leonard requested a trade from the San Antonio over the summer. Many saw that as a surprise since the Spurs could have offered Leonard the Designated Player Extension as well. It looks like these players don't care about the money. They want to play somewhere where they are comfortable and can win.
Now, that's not to say Anthony Davis is not comfortable in New Orleans. The Brow has said many times he loves playing for the Pelicans and living in New Orleans.
However, AD has only been out of the first-round of the playoffs once in his NBA career. For an elite player like Davis, winning is all that matters, and if the Pelicans can't build a contender around him, it looks like Davis could leave The Big Easy.
