The New Orleans Pelicans reportedly continue to prefer trading star big man Anthony Davis to a team other than the Los Angeles Lakers, according to Ian Begley of SNY.
It appears the Pelicans, led by head coach Alvin Gentry, are still upset with how Davis and Lakers star LeBron James' agent, Rich Paul, sabotaged their 2018-19 season by influencing Davis to request a trade.
Pelicans executive vice president of basketball operations David Griffin met with Davis last week. Griffin tried to convince Davis to change his mind about wanting to be traded, but by all accounts, AD still wants to be moved:
The Lakers are expected to be in the mix for Davis as well. Though, as other reports have noted, some people in positions of influence in New Orleans continue to prefer to deal Davis to a team other than the Lakers, per SNY sources.
Los Angeles has the fourth overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft. The Lakers could send the Pelicans Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram, Kyle Kuzma and the fourth pick for Davis.
However, the Pelicans should also hear from the Boston Celtics and New York Knicks this summer. The Celtics have Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown and a bevy of picks, while the Knicks have the third overall pick in this year's draft, along with Kevin Knox, Mitchell Robinson and the multiple future draft picks they acquired from the Dallas Mavericks in the Kristaps Porzingis trade.
Griffin is an astute basketball mind. He will get the Pelicans the best return possible for Davis.
