The blockbuster trade that brought former Chicago Bulls point guard Derrick Rose to the New York Knicks is a move they made to give their franchise player, Carmelo Anthony, the help he needs to lead the team win.
Only five years out of his MVP season in 2011, the Memphis product now finds himself playing a supporting role, and not the go-to-guy anymore. But speaking to Marc Berman of the New York Post, Rose said he clearly understands the reason why he was brought to The Big Apple and knows what he has to do to make Melo's job easier:
“My job is to come here and help him win. This is his team. In practice I'll push him and be on him when he's being lazy and vice versa. There's no bad blood. I'm just here to help him win.”
“My job is to make (Anthony's) job easy. I'm not coming in for my stats. I don't care about my stats. As long as we win, I can sleep easy at night.”
Given his style of play and the attention he gets from defenders, the former first-overall pick of the 2008 draft believes it compliments Anthony's game.

On paper, their styles may seem complimentary, but the question a lot of doubters have been asking is how their relationship off the court will be like. Successful teams from the past have been known to have a strong bond even off the court, and that's why the team together with their new teammates spent time in Puerto Rico during the summer to get to know each other even more. Anthony and his wife, Lala, then took to social media via their Instagram accounts to share some photos of their time in the Caribbean island:

The retooled roster of the Knicks have a lot to prove starting this coming season. The people of New York have huge expectations for their team given their additions to the roster. Knowing that their new starting point guard has a clear understanding of what he needs to bring to the table, and building a strong bond with the 9-time All-Star, certainly boasts well for their chances of winning more games and finally making a playoff appearance for the first time in four years.
