Knicks fans are obviously not pleased with how their off-season turned out. However, newly-signed forward Bobby Portis remains positive about their upcoming 2019-20 campaign. In fact, he believes that the Knicks will have one of the best benches in the league next season, per Marc Berman of The New York Post.
New York had ambitions to land two marquee free agents this summer but struck out on every single one of them. Among their top targets were Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving – both of whom crossed the bridge and headed to Brooklyn.
Instead, they ended up signing a bevy of power forwards such as Portis, Julius Randle, Marcus Morris, and Taj Gibson to fill out their cap room. Randle will most likely get the starting nod over the others, along with sophomore center Mitchell Robinson. Their no. 3 overall pick R.J. Barrett and sophomore forward Kevin Knox will also likely start on the wings, with Dennis Smith Jr. rounding out the five.
No doubt, this year's Knicks roster is better than what they rolled with last season. This team should be able to compete and stay in most games. But that doesn't take away the fact that they tragically lost out on lady luck this summer.
