Dennis Smith Jr., who was acquired by the Knicks in a trade deadline deal with the Dallas Mavericks back in February, has been dealing with various injuries and has only played two games since March 12. New York — which owns the worst record in the East — decided not to shut down DSJ, but the team is still expected to take extra precautionary measures to ensure that the sophomore guard doesn't re-aggravate his injury.

Smith continues his attempt to rejuvenate his career with the Knicks after his fallout with the Mavs earlier this season. The 20 year-old guard struggled to play with Luka Doncic and expressed his frustrations with Dallas for how the franchise handled his situation. He was then traded to the Knicks back in February in exchange for a disgruntled player of their own, Kristaps Porzingis.
In 19 games with the Knicks, Smith has averaged 14.1 points and 5.5 assists.
