Newly-acquired point guard Dennis Smith Jr. described the importance of his first home win as a member of the New York Knicks, proud of making his presence felt in The Big Apple.

“It’s major,” said Smith after pouring in 19 points, 13 assists, and six rebounds in a 130-118 win over the San Antonio Spurs on Sunday, according to Brian Mahoney of The Associated Press.

“We’ve been having our fans come out and support every night and haven’t won here since Dec. 1. I wasn’t part of that one, so I’m glad that we could get it tonight and just give the fans something to see.”

The Knicks had lost 18 straight games before salvaging a win on the road against the Atlanta Hawks right before the All-Star break, coming into the final third of the season with better spirits. A win over San Antonio makes it two in the last three games for a team that was sporting the worst record in the league for a month.

At 12-48, there isn't much hope for the Knicks besides locking up one of the three worst records in the league and hoping lady luck strikes to reward them with the No. 1 overall pick — one which most Knicks faithful hope can materialize in Duke forward Zion Williamson.

There are only 22 games left in the season and less than two months of action in an otherwise uneventful 2018-19 campaign that has only served as time to develop young players and creating cap room to sign two max-level stars in the summer.
