Kristaps Porzingis has found his rhythm with this New York Knicks team early on the season. The 7-foot-3 forward admits to starting to feel “very comfortable” as the No. 1 option of the team.

After a rude 0-3 awakening for the struggling franchise, the unicorn has found an unexpected groove coming into his third season with the team. The Knicks managed to get back to .500 with three straight wins, which came accompanied by three 30-point games, including a career-high 38 points against the Denver Nuggets at the end of October.

Porzingis came one point shy of his career-best only four days after, against the Phoenix Suns this time, registering 37, seven rebounds, and three blocks in a 13-point win against another young team on the rise.

The Latvian international took it one notch higher on Sunday, drilling yet another career high with 40 points against the Indiana Pacers on Sunday.

“I'm seeing a different type of defense almost every night. No matter who I'm playing against they're trying to be physical with me. I'm just trying to make the right decision, whether it's me being aggressive and attacking or passing the ball,” Porzingis said after scoring 17 fourth-quarter points in the Knicks' 108-101 win, according to ESPN's Ian Begley. “Just trying to play my game and staying calm mentally.”

Porzingis is now second in the NBA's scoring list with 30.2 points per game — a massive improvement over his 18.1 per game average from last season.

His coach Jeff Hornacek echoes the same sentiment.

“I think, again, the game has slowed [for him and] he's playing with confidence,” Hornacek said. “He's willing to take those shots and make the plays. That's the step that he's taken in becoming the main focus.”
