First day on the job, and Mitchell Robinson already has an enemy. The New York Knicks rookie got inside the head of Washington Wizards forward Markieff Morris, who was ejected for talking smack to Robinson, in their pre-season game Monday night.

Morris obviously didn't like getting thrown out, and had some choice words for the rookie after the game. However, Robinson wasn't going to back down just like that and clapped back at the 7-year veteran out of Kansas.

ā€œHe could have helped his team out tonight if he’d just be quiet. I didn’t say nothing to him,ā€ said Robinson per Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News. ā€œIf he would’ve just hushed and continued to play the game, but he wanted to keep going. He got out. We got the win, I kept playing.ā€

As seen in the video below, Morris appeared to be talking down Robinson. The two got in a heated conversation in the play prior to this one. But Morris kept talking and the rookie didn't appear to budge and just smiled. That's when the referees stepped in and ejected Morris, who must have said something inappropriate.

To be honest, that was some class-A trash-talking from the rookie, who seemed to have learned a thing or to from his head coach David Fizdale. He himself is a known smack talker, following his infamous ā€œtake that for dataā€ rant during his time as coach with the Memphis Grizzlies in their 2017 NBA playoff series against the San Antonio Spurs.

Fiz loved the fight from his second-round rookie:

ā€œYeah, that was awesome. You don't instigate it but you don't back down.ā€

Robinson had a strong pre-season debut with a myriad of alley-oops and dunks, tallying 6 points and 7 rebounds in 16 minutes.
