Trier and Robinson just finished their first season in the NBA, while Smith completed his second.
The Knicks plan to send their assistants on the road to work with first-year players Allonzo Trier, Mitchell Robinson and young guard Dennis Smith Jr. in the coming days, SNY sources say. Kevin Knox has been working with head coach David Fizdale and assistant Caleb Kanales. There are plans for the young Knicks to convene as a group with coaches in a locale outside of New York for more workouts, sources say.
The Knicks acquired Smith from the Dallas Mavericks in the Kristaps Porzingis trade. The high-flyer played in 21 games with New York and averaged 14.7 points, 2.8 rebounds and 5.4 assists while shooting 41.3 percent from the field and 28.9 percent from beyond the arc.
Trier went undrafted in the 2018 NBA Draft. The Knicks signed him to a two-way contract in July and then converted it into a regular contract in December. Trier averaged 10.9 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 64 games and shot 44.8 percent overall, 39.4 percent from the 3-point line and 80.3 percent from the charity stripe.
Robinson was the 36th overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft. He established himself as a shot-blocking machine in 2018-19. Mitchell blocked 161 shots as a rookie and averaged 7.3 points and 6.4 rebounds. The big man shot 69.4 percent from the floor.
