With all the uncertainties regarding Derrick Rose’s future, the New York Knicks are planning ahead in their quest to have a veteran point guard in their lineup. Despite selecting Frank Ntilikina during last month’s draft, their coaching staff still wants to have a proven floor general to bring more depth and provide valuable wisdom to their young rookie.

It was previously reported that Rajon Rondo, who is now an unrestricted free agent after being waived by the Chicago Bulls, is on the Knicks' radar. Now, according to Ian Begley of ESPN, both parties have mutual interest and could be working on a short term deal soon.

“On the point guard front, the Knicks are looking at several different veterans and hope to bring one in on a short-term deal. One free agent they’ve remained in touch with is Rajon Rondo, per sources. There is interest from both sides, sources say.”

Rondo is an 11-year league veteran with plenty of postseason experience. He spent last season with the Bulls and was benched for majority of the year, after a much-publicized feud with head coach Fred Hoiberg emerged.

Despite only averaging the least amount of playing time since his rookie year, Rondo was still able to produce decent numbers of 7.8 points, 5.1 rebounds, 6.7 assists, and 1.4 steals in 26.7 minutes per game.

He rose to the occasion for the Bulls in the first round of the playoffs after being the team's best player in Games 1 and 2 against the Celtics, both of which were wins for Chicago, until an injury took him out of the series, along with the Bulls.
